Bring on the HEAT!!

Friday morning we spent a few hours at American Dream Machines in Des Moines, IA looking at the cars they have for sale, and talking with the folks there. Although there were several cars that we would have liked, we drove away in the MINI.

We ate a quick breakfast at Burger King and talked briefly with a gentleman whose son is an engineer for Hendrick Racing! There was also a man there with a youngster who had a dirt track shirt and a Braves hat on - I told the youngster that he must be perfect; a dirt track fan and a Braves fan!!!

Somewhere between our stops, we noticed alphabet clouds! Do you see the letters?

That day we traveled almost 340 miles and stopped in Lexington, NE to visit with the pastor who married us, and her husband. After a good meal and good times, we camped again in Camp Wally that night.
Entering NE meant we got to add another sticker to our map on the side of the rig!

When we entered CO, John honked the horn at the folks stopped by the welcome sign, and they waved at the perfect time for this picture!

We stopped at the Welcome Center for a quick break and stuck CO on our map!

There were also a lot of teepee statues, and we thought the Pony Express statue was neat too.

On toward Denver and everything was going well. That ended as we began to climb. Denver is the mile-high city, but Vail is near twice that, and our rig just wasn't up for the challenge. It was a warm day and there were several vehicles pulled over cooling down. Stopping every 2 - 5 miles for a few minutes was enough to get us over the mountain, then we rode the twisting, winding road through the mountains. John did a fine job of driving the whole 10 1/2 hour day while I enjoyed the beautiful scenery!

It's all downhill from here!!! (Vail Pass Summit 10,662 feet!)

We stayed in Grand Junction, CO, at Camp Wally one more night, then continued our westward journey.

We arrived in my mom & step-dad's driveway Sunday afternoon. Since then, it has been a fun whirlwind of visiting, and playing with my niece & nephew.

(this was our afternoon of Shrinky Dinks!!)

We're enjoying the 100+ degree heat! Now this is what summer feels like!
