That night I helped prepare for our granddaughter’s 6th birthday.
It was a Dr. Seuss themed party and the cupcakes were to be Cat in the Hat hats. We dipped cookies in almond bark and also large (campfire sized) marshmallows. Before they completely set, we stacked two marshmallows on a cookie and set them in the fridge to harden.
The next morning, fruit roll-ups were wound around them to decorate them with the finishing touch. However, they were a little wobbly on the cupcakes, so we ended up having plain cupcakes and Cat in the Hat hats on the side. I was disappointed that most of the kids didn’t eat their sugar. I hated seeing most of them thrown away.
The decorations were great, and the party continued with games, a piƱata, gift opening, and decorating fish cupcakes.
What a cool idea!!

Sunday our granddaughter planted a 'seed bomb', which is a clay ball with various seeds stuck in it. You just stick it in dirt, water it, and watch for the explosion of flowers!
Monday night we attended the “Duck Derby”, supporting the local Minnehaha Elementary School PTA. We had fun watching the kids participate in the activities, then it was time for the ducks to go, Go, GO! We cheered for our duck #81, but he got lost in the shuffle, and did not win.
Tuesday was D-day, the 66th anniversary of American military troops arriving in Normandy, France. The Richard I. Bong Veteran’s museum in nearby Superior, WI was having an open house, so we went and enjoyed hot dogs, hamburgers, chips, popcorn, and soda (although up here it’s called ‘pop’). We toured the museum and learned a lot about Richard Bong, decorated flight hero who shot down 40 aircraft and was awarded the Medal of Honor. He was honorably discharged from the service, married his high school sweetheart, and died as a test pilot 6 months later. He was from Poplar, WI.
This weekend we are looking forward to our eldest daughter coming to visit, and bringing our 3 great-granddaughters. It will be lots of fun for all the cousins to get together!
