Every
Thursday night during the summer season the Two Harbors City Band puts on a
concert in the park and various sponsors in town provide ice cream. In
accompaniment, the church we attend hosts weekly simple suppers. We used to go
regularly, but have drifted away from that the past several years. This summer has begun Arts on
Superior concerts on Friday evenings, so last Friday we went with our daughter
and 2 granddaughters to the concert.
Our
daughters both have the gardening gene and raspberries are plentiful here. Our granddaughter
knows my strong desire for sweets, and this week she surprised me with a yummy dessert
that she made, where she mushes up raspberries and stirs in sugar. Mine she topped
with a blueberry for a beautiful touch! YUM!
Over
the weekend, our 6 year old granddaughter learned to ride her bike without
training wheels! It was a momentous occasion and we were so thrilled to be
present for it! Her Dad got a good workout running behind her until she got the
hang of the balancing act. Go Sophia! There’s no stopping her now!
Monday
night our daughter and granddaughter flew in from southern NV. Tuesday
afternoon Sophia showed them her newly honed bike riding skills.
Through
the week Candy has assisted me in my schoolwork, which wears her out! She sets
a good example by resting on the word of God.
Yesterday
was John’s 68th birthday and we had originally planned to celebrate
with our annual trip to Grand Marais. A change of plans allowed us to celebrate
on my ¾ birthday instead! Wednesday morning 13 of us and one dog loaded up in 4
cars and headed up the shore.
We
enjoyed the’ Uffdah zah’ (combo pizza) at Sven and Ole’s, and got our free
donuts at the World’s Best Donut shop and signed up for two more next year. We
frequented our usual favorite shops, but missed out on lake time this year, as
it was rainy and the adults vetoed that fun this year. Also, I missed a group
picture this time; we could only get 11 of us at one time, although one
(Cheryl) is hiding, so only 10 of us are visible.
Another definite stop was the World's Best Donut shop, where Amber and I got our free donuts because we remembered our chosen numbers from last year. They rang the bell and we signed the winner's board and chose new numbers for another free donut next year!! Amber bought me a magnet so I can take pictures of it with us in our travels.
Yesterday
for lunch, I presented John with a plate of deviled eggs with a candle stuck in
the middle. I sang to him and he blew out the candle.
The
family celebrated John’s birthday with a trip to the DQ to participate in the
Miracle Treat Day. For every Blizzard sold, DQ donates $1. to the Children’s
Miracle Network. There were 13 of us again, so we got 12 Blizzards and one cone.
I had hoped to get a picture of all of our treats together, but with the confusion
of so many people, it was much easier to just get a picture of mine. It’s chocolate
candy shop – the Blizzard of the month flavor! Somehow John’s Blizzard did not make
the order, and he ended up without one. What a bum deal – it’s his birthday, he
treated us all, and he didn’t get one. While all of his daughters are thoughtful,
Andrea was the one that stood in line and got him his birthday Blizzard.
John
had a good birthday and was well-remembered. Although he says it’s just another day, it's a day I'm grateful for every day!
